An online store succeeds when the whole order journey is designed, not only the product pages. Before choosing a platform, write down who buys, what they need to compare, which locations you serve and how an order is fulfilled after payment.
Define the catalogue
List products or services, variants, prices, tax treatment, images, stock rules and any customisation. Decide who owns updates and how product information reaches the store. For services, state what a buyer receives, what inputs you need and when delivery can begin.
Walk through a real order
Test discovery, cart, checkout, payment success and failure, customer email, admin notification, fulfilment, cancellation and refund. A manual payment method needs a verification step; a payment screenshot is not settlement. International orders may need separate currency, tax and support decisions.
Plan operations and acceptance
Decide how enquiries and orders reach the team, how exceptions are handled, what analytics you need and who maintains plugins, backups and security. Agree an acceptance checklist for mobile usability, accessibility, page speed, payments and notifications before launch.
Bring this checklist to a discovery discussion. It helps estimate scope and avoid surprises later.
